Srinagar, Jan 20: The Meteorological Department in a new forecast has said that a wet spell is likely to begin from Friday night and there would be a moderate spell of snowfall during Saturday and Sunday night, While the valley continued to reel under sub-zero night temperature, they said.

Ditector MET Sonum Lotus told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the forthcoming wet spell can cause disruption in both air and surface traffic, the MeT has warned.

According to news agency Kashmir Dot Com, MET office has said, in the new forecast that, “Another Western Disturbance of moderate intensity is most likely to affect J&K and Kargil district of Ladakh during January 22 (night) to 24th (night) with main activity on January 23-24.”

“This will cause widespread moderate snowfall in hilly areas of Jammu, plains of Kashmir, rain in plains of Jammu and light snowfall at scattered places of Ladakh especially in Kargil district,” Lotus said.

The forty-day Chillai-Kalan had already started on 21 December 2020 and ended on 31 January. The period is considered the harshest of the winter when the chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum.
