Amidst the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, India reported 4 lakh fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. This is the highest ever single-day rise in cases reported by any country so far, and the 10th consecutive day when India has recorded more than 3 lakh cases.

As per available data from covid19india.org, an independent aggregator of daily COVID 19 figures, India reports 4,01,911 new Covid cases and 3,521 deaths during 24 hours.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state in India. Maharashtra reported 62,919 infections in the last 24 Hours, followed by Karnataka with 48,296 new infections and Kerala with 37,199 new cases. While as Delhi recorded 27,047 new cases.

The country's healthcare infrastructure is reeling under the second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic as lakhs of new coronavirus cases emerge every day. This has led to an acute shortage of oxygen, beds and timely medical care across several states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Friday, where they were briefed about the management of the pandemic and availability of oxygen and medicines, sources said.

This was the first meeting of the council of ministers in the aftermath of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country.
